Unearthed Films Sets For Release A Dec. 17 Blu-ray Edition Of Director Ryan Nicholson's Famine

Unearthed Films, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has selected Dec. 17 (school’s out, Christmas/New Year’s holiday period) as the street date for a newly minted Blu-ray edition of f/x and make-up-artist-turned-director (when he’s not super busy) Ryan Nicholson’s 2011 horror comedy, Famine.

Lurking the halls of Sloppy “Secondary” High School is The Nailer, the school mascot, who is about to build up one hell of a body count … more on that in just a moment.

For some odd reason the big thing to do is to spend a day in the school’s gym with your classmates and participate in a 24-hour “Famine.”   A lot has changed since 1985, when the “Brat Pack” got together for detention in John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club, and found fun things to pass the time.   The “Famine” is the latest fun thing to do to pass the time, which, one suspects, is nothing more than an excuse to hook up and have sex at a school sponsored event.

Miss Vickers (Michelle Sabiene — Truth, The Clean-Up) is the new teacher in town and she is sponsoring this year’s Famine.   Good for her as it has been a couple of years since the last Famine was held, and that’s because there was a horrible “incident” involving the Chemistry teacher, Philip Balszack, and Cathy (Beth Cantor), one of the students.

Rumors abound, but since kids have short attention spans, it’s time for the Famine and whatever happened is so yesterday.   In they march, including Cathy (she must have been a Freshman) and sneaky Katie (Sanya Silver), who heads to the girl’s room to stash some food — not going hungry this one — and guess who is hanging out?   Give up?   The Nailer and goodbye Katie!!!

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyThe victim pool is assembled in what is basically a haunted house thriller and things then go into slasher mode as The Nailer, the cute-as-a-button school mascot, picks off the students one by one.   Among the students is Jenny (Christine Wallace), who claims that she’s seen Principal Nielson (Glenn Hoffmann) dead with his eyes gouged out, but that’s a buzz kill, so Miss Vickers kicks her out of the Famine.   Dang, so many lives could have been saved!!

So, who is hiding in The Nailer costume?   Will Jenny go to the police?   Why didn’t Miss Vickers believe her?   And, what secrets does Cathy have that could be the key to all of this?
So many question … oops, another dead body.   And another.   And another.

Bonus features include commentary from director Ryan Nicholson and an extensive stills gallery from the film.
