Mill Creek Entertainment has circled Sept. 21 on its release calendar as the street date for a Blu-ray edition of auteur filmmaker Ron Howard’s 2008 film adaptation of English playwright Peter Morgan’s Tony-nominated play, Frost/Nixon.
Not only did Ron Howard get Morgan to do the screen adaption, but he also landed both Michael Sheen and Frank Langella to reprise their stage roles of David Frost and president Richard Nixon respectively.
The film, which documents the taping of the 1977 interview sessions between Frost and Nixon, was nominated for Best Picture, Frank Langella, who won the Tony Award for his stage performance, was nominated for Best Actor, Peter Morgan was nominated for his screen adaptation and Ron Howard received his second Best Director Oscar nomination, having previously been nominated in 2001 for A Beautiful Mind, which he won.
Frost/Nixon opened at the London Film Festival in October of 2008, had a limited three-theatre Oscar-qualifying run that began in early December and then went wide in January of 2009.
