Unearthed Films, with sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has tabbed Jan. 18 for the domestic Blu-ray debut of Japanese filmmaker Ryū Murakami’s 1992 (1993 domestic) erotic thriller, Tokyo Decadence.   A DVD edition will also be available from Unearthed Films on the same date.

The life of Ai (played by Miho Nikaido — Henry Fool, The Book of Life, Fay Grim) is a rollercoaster ride of sex freaks, “businessmen,” gangsters, a dominatrix by the name of Saki (Sayoko Amano) and more (you name it, they likely have enjoyed her company).   Ai is a hooker, a high-class prostitute who services the needs of her various clients, but along the way she gets sidetracked into drugs and a search for a lost love.

For all the world she could be a robot.   What the client needs, she “mirrors,” which makes Murakami’s film both erotic (with the extremes of encounters) and creepy, as we try to sort out what motivates this woman to travel down this very dangerous life-path.   Will her next client be her last?

Bonus features include two viewing options, one with the original Japanese language track and one featuring the English-dubbed presentation.   There is a production featurette and an extensive stills gallery.
