Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's Truth Or Dare Ready For Release As DVD And Blu-ray Product Offerings On July 17

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
The home entertainment business is in a state of chaos.   Retailer websites, like Amazon.com, Target and Best Buy, are bad enough with their frequent habit of poaching pre-book orders before the studios make their official announcements.

This week Universal Pictures Home Entertainment discovered a new nemesis to compete with.  The jump-the-gun troublemaker was none other than the twitter account of Blumhouse Productions, which was busy spilling the beans about the July 17 Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD launch of director Jeff Wadlow’s Truth or Dare.

Amazon.com quickly followed with pre-book order-taking for July 17, confirming all of the Blumhouse twitter feeds.

Everything is moving at the speed-of-light these days, with the “Hollywood” studios moving recent theatrical hits to the home entertainment market place at an ever-increasing pace.   Truth or Dare, for example, arrives with an ARR of 95 days … ticket sales, for the record, currently stand at $39.9 million.

There is good reason for Blumhouse Productions to be excited and jump ahead of a formal announcement from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.  With a reported production budget of under $4 million, and an ending to Truth or Date that leaves it open to a sequel (or sequels), you can expect the next installment to go into production in short order.  It is a winner for them and an almost certain film franchise, but leave the home entertainment moves to the experts … relax.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyAs to bonus goodies, producer/writer/director Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2, Cry Wolf, Never Back Down) and actress Lucy Hale (perhaps best known as Aria from the Pretty Little Liars TV series … plus such films as Scream 4, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, etc.) provide commentary and there are a pair of featurettes — “Directing the Deaths” and “Game On: The Making of Truth or Dare.”

Plus, the film has two viewing options … the theatrical cut (PG-13) and an Unrated Director’s Cut (likely to include trims necessary to get Truth or Dare down from the dreaded R-rating).
