Up All Night: The Complete Series On Blu-ray From Mill Creek Entertainment On Apr. 05

Mill Creek Entertainment announced this past week that Apr. 5 will be the street date for a three-disc DVD collection of Up All Night: The Complete Series, starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph.

All 35 episodes from this sitcom’s two season run — created by nine-time Emmy Awards nominee and Saturday Night Live alumni, Emily Spivey — are included here.

Reagan (Christina Applegate — Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Mars Attacks!, The Sweetest Things … and as Kelly Bundy on the Married … with Children sitcom) and Chris Brinkley (Will Arnett — Arrested Development, BoJack Horseman) are a high octane married couple enjoying the partying life and their own careers … that is until Amy, their daughter, comes along.

Severin Films Circles Mar. 29 On The Release Calendar For The Blu-ray (And DVD) Debut Of Writer/Director Ruggero Deodato's Ballad In Blood

 

Severin Films, with sale and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has captured the domestic distribution rights to writer/director Ruggero Deodato’s 2016 film festival horror entry, Ballad in Blood.   Both DVD and Blu-ray editions will be making their debut on Mar. 29.

Deodato, noted for his genre-fan classics, Cannibal Holocaust (1980) and House on the Edge of the Park (1983), all but dropped out the feature-film directing game in the early 1990s and turned his attention instead to mini-series and episodic television productions … and then suddenly in 2016 he’s back with a film festival entry.

The excitement grew, Deodato is back!!   However, Ballad in Blood suddenly disappeared from sight in late 2016 and the much-hoped-for arrival in the domestic market never materialized, until now.

Deodato says that his inspiration was the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, which resulted in the infamous Amada Knox murder trial.   Guilty, whoops, not guilty, wrong person … a rush to judgement sort of thing.   In the end, after a series of show trials, Knox was vindicated by forensic evidence and the real killer was brought to justice.

To say the least, it was a confused mess.   Deodato seized upon this and has fashioned a murder mystery that is “bathed in blood” (and a whole lot more).   At the core, and we will try not to give too much, a trio of party-hardy “friends,” Lenka (Carlotta Morelli) and Jacopo (Gabriele Rossi), along with their drug-dealing “buddy,” Duke (Edward Williams), try to put the pieces together following a wild Halloween party.   

 It seems that Lenka’s roommate, Elizabeth (Noemi Smorra), has been brutally murdered … there she is dead — it is definitely not a drug overdose — and the trio can’t remember how it happened.

Solve the crime, turn on each other, suspect each other … lots and lots of options.   And then there is the sex, the drugs, the “other stuff” … so many pieces to a very nasty puzzle!!

Arrow Video Looks To Apr. 26 For The Release Of Director Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys As A 4K Ultra HD Product Offering

Arrow Video, with domestic sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has new 4K film restoration (from the original camera negative) of auteur filmmaker Terry Gilliam’s 1995 prophetic sci-fi tale, 12 Monkeys, slated for a 4K Ultra HD rollout on Apr. 26.

Starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe and Brad Pitt, who received his first of four acting Oscar nominations — Best Supporting Actor … The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Best Actor nomination in 2008); Money Ball (Best Actor nomination in 2011) and Once Upon a Time in ... Hollywood (Best Supporting Actor 2019 and winner) would follow.

Bonus features include commentary from Terry Gilliam and producer Charles Roven, the feature-length documentary from the team of Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe titled The Hamster Factor and Other Tales of Twelve Monkeys and a trio of featurettes — “The Film Exchange with Terry Gilliam,” “Appreciation by Ian Christie” and “The Twelve Monkeys Archives.”

 

 

 

 

Drop Dead Fred On Blu-ray From Vinegar Syndrome On Mar. 29

Vinegar Syndrome has a new 2K film restoration (from the 35mm interpositiv) of director Ate de Jong’s 1991 fantasy/comedy, Drop Dead Fred — starring Phoebe Cates and British comedian Rik Mayall — ready for a Blu-ray release on Mar. 29.

Elizabeth Cronin (Phoebe Cates — Gremlins, Bright Lights, Big City) is having a really, really bad day.   Her husband leaves her, her car and purse are stolen and she’s late for her court reporter job and the judge fires her … she literally cries herself to sleep that night.  

If she thought yesterday was rough, what until she wakes the next morning.   Her imaginary childhood “friend,” Drop Dead Fred — someone she blamed for her own mischief — is back and he’s not happy.  Not only is Elizabeth no longer five-years-old, but Fred has been out of action for something like twenty years … that’s all about to change!!

Drop Dead Fred ranges between black comedy (some of Fred’s antics are very questionable) and classic screwball comedy.   Elizabeth’s mother (played by Marsha Mason) appears to be the root of Elizabeth’s wild “dreams” involving Fred … and unless something can be done, there will be an on-going path of destruction wherever Elizabeth goes, because that’s what Fred does for her.

Bonus goodies included with the Drop Dead Fred Blu-ray release from Vinegar Syndrome on Mar. 29 include commentary with filmmaker Ate De Jong, deleted scenes, outtakes, a video session with De Jong and producer Paul Webster and a half-dozen featurettes — “Imaginary Friends,” “The Mega Beast Speaks Out,” “Drop Dead Look,” “Mischief Matters,” “I’m Your Fella, Annabella” and “Memories of Snot Face.”
