Mill Creek Entertainment To Release The FInal Two Andy Sidaris "Bullets, Bombs And Babes" Action Films • Day Of The Warrior • Return To Savage Beach • On July 14

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
They say all good things must come to an end.

One year ago, in April of 2019, Mill Creek Entertainment set out to release all of director Andy Sidaris’ popular “BBB” (Bullets, Bombs and Babes) action films — starring former Playboy Playmates and Penthouse Pets — on Blu-ray.  With this week’s announcements, it is mission accomplished.

On July 14 the series of 12 films — that began in 1985 with the theatrical release of Malibu Express — finishes up with the Blu-ray debuts of both Day of the Warrior (1996) and Return to Savage Beach (1998).   And, as a bonus, both films arrive on Blu-ray with Digital Copy.

In Day of the Warrior, the L.E.T.H.A.L. computer system has been hacked by the sinister “The Warrior” (played by World Championship Wrestling’s Marcus Bagwell) and now the lives of the lovely lady agents are in danger.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Willow Black (Julie Strain — Fit to Kill, Lethal Seduction, The Bare Wench Project, etc.) teams up with agents Cobra (form Penthouse Pet of the Month, Julie K. Smith — The Dallas Connection, The Witches of Breastwick, The Bare Wench Project) and Tiger (former Playmate of the Month, Shae Marks — as Babette in the Black Scorpion television series) to go on the offensive after the Shark (Darren Wise) and Scorpion (Tammy Parks) are attacked, but manage to survive The Warrior’s assassination attempts.

But when Willow Black is taken hostage it is all hands on deck as The Warrior must be stopped!

Finishing up the series is Return to Savage Beach, which is a director sequel to Day of the Warrior … but more importantly Sidaris was able to wrangle many of the former “BBB” cast members for something of a Playboy Playmates and Penthouse Pets reunion.

So put July 14 on your calendar for the Blu-ray viewing calendar for the wrap-up of the 12-strong Andy Sidaris’ Bullets, Bombs and Babes action film cycle with the release of Return to Savage Beach and Day of the Warrior.

Paramount Home Media's Pretty In Pink Gets Pararamoun Presents Blu-ray Release On June 16

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Paramount Home Media Distribution has locked in June 16 for a “Paramount Presents” Blu-ray presentation of director Howard Deutch’s 1986 teenage angst comedy hit, Pretty in Pink, starring Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Jon Cryer, James Spader and Harry Dean Stanton.

Paramount’s new Blu-ray promotional program for the studio’s extensive film library — “Paramount Presents” — looks to be a winner with the first three releases in the series — Fatal Attraction, King Creole and To Catch a Thief — all set for delivery on Apr. 21.

Love, class distinctions between blue collar and wealth and some cruel high school game playing, all play out in Pretty in Pink, which features a winning combination of some smart/insightful writing (by John Hughes, whose scripts include Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Home Alone) and excellent performances from the ensemble cast.

This new 4K film restoration arrives on Blu-ray with bonus features that include an isolated score, the original ending (“The Lost Dance”) and a newly prepared video session with director Howard Deutch titled “Filmmaker Focus.”

Two other “Paramount Presents” Blu-ray presentations are also in the pipeline.   Arriving May 19 is a new 4K restoration of director Adrian Lyne’s 1983 smash romantic hit, Flashdance, starring Jennifer Beals and featuring a knockout soundtrack that includes Irene Cara’s “What a Feeling,” Karen Ichiuji-Ramone’s (aka: Karen Kamon) “Manhunt” and Micheal Sembello’s “Maniac.”

Bonus features include a trio of featurettes — “The Look of Flashdance,” “Releasing the Flashdance Phenomenon” and “Filmmaker Focus: Director Adrian Lyne on Flashdance.”

Also on May 19 is a new 4K restoration of director Tony Scott’s 1990 Nascar classic, Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman and Robert Duvall.

MVD Entertainment Group Bestows Marquee Collection Status On The Blu-ray Release Of Snapdragon On July 14

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Word arrived this past week that a new Marquee Collection candidate for Blu-ray release has been announced by MVD Entertainment Group.

Director Worth Keeter’s 1993 mystery thriller, Snapdragon, will be joining the company’s Blu-ray library of films that fall been between “cult” (not old enough) status and “catalog” (too new for that) on July 14.

Baywatch super star Pamela Anderson was just coming into her own with that series when she took time off between seasons to star in Snapdragon.   Here she plays a former sex-slave named Felicity, who has blocked her past experiences as a child, but continues to seduce men … and, because of her past, has started killing her tricks.   How she does it is kind of creepy.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
In any case, her murders have raised eyebrows and Detective Sergeant Peg “Peck” Peckham (Chelsea Field — The Last Boy Scout, A Passion to Kill) has been assigned to the case.   She recruits a clinical psychologist by the name of Doctor David Hoogstraten (Steven Bauer — Scarface, Traffic, Primal Fear, etc.) to help her profile the character.

Here’s where it gets twisted.   Felicity happens to be one of his patients (she is definitely messed up) and Dr. Hoogstraten (say that three times) has the hots for her (come on, it’s Pamela Anderson).   Will he be a victim of the “Snapdragon” before Peckham puts two-and-two together?

Writer/Director William J. Murray's Primal Scream To Be Released On Blu-ray On June 16 From Dark Force Entertainment

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Dark Force Entertainment, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has circled June 16 on its release calendar for the Blu-ray debut of writer/director William J. Murray’s 1987 direct-to-video release of Primal Scream, which is part sci-fi and part neo-noir murder mystery.

In the near-future, we find an environmental nightmare has unfolded and fuel supplies are nearly depleted, economic devastation abounds, but as luck would have it … we have an independent space mining program (so it is not all bad).

Primal Scream definitely follows in the footsteps of Blade Runner, which had hit screens nationwide in the summer of 1982 and delivered a depressing blend of futuristic sci-fi coupled with film noir murder mystery elements … this combination would influence filmmakers for years to come.

We learn that the Thesaurus International appears to have the solution to the “crisis” with a clean energy source called “Hellfire,” but this mysterious element also seems to have the nasty side effect of melting people.   Murder, mayhem and the sabotage of expensive space equipment follow … all in an effort to either to cover up the Hellfire problems or to stop it from moving forward.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyInto this mess comes a has-been detective by that name of Corby McHale (Kenneth McGregor — X-Men, The Hurricane, 10,000 Black Men Named George, etc.), who has been recruited by Caitlin Foster (Julie Miller) to investigate her brother, who just happens to be the head of Thesaurus.   He’s plain nasty.

Also in the mix is the mysterious Samantha (Sharon Mason) … sex, violence, murder and sci-fi as it is up to McHale to find out what is going (way in over his head), and do that quickly, because anyone who gets too close to what Thesaurus is actually up to has a tendency to die (one way or another).

Bonus features include commentary from filmmaker William J. Murray, the featurette titled “Made a Movie, Live to Tell” and a promo reel for the film’s alternate title, Hellfire.

Bayview Entertainment Tabs June 23 As The DVD Debut Date For Writer/Director J.E. Layne's Immaculate Possession

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Bayview Entertainment announced this past week that writer/director J. E. Layne’s labor of love comedy, Immaculate Possession, will be making its DVD debut on June 23.

A film three-years in the making — indie films can be like that.   Filmmakers such as J. E. Layne, and his producing partners, Jason Schierloh, Abe Synthe and Tiki Von Synthe, are faced with making a movie on a limited budget.  They look to cast members and crew to pull double duties, beg for locations to be donated and ask family members to chip in, all with the goal of getting a fun-filled film done … and guess what, they did!

Artie (Will Wreggelsworth — The Throbbit, 3 Knee Deep, 6 Feet Below Hell) is a pain, he means well, but he’s a pain; a nerd.   Though a series of comedy vignettes he establishes himself as just that, the neighborhood nuisance.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
That “I just want to be helpful” attitude lands him into a world of hurt when a series of unfortunate events lands him into a purgatory of sorts where he wanders naked, unable to communicate with the people around him.

His savior may come in the form of a washed-up beauty queen, well, maybe that’s bit harsh, how about a former “beauty pageant contestant.”   Her name is Bethany (Karissa Sinclair) and she could be the love of his life (or death) … or for her, this could be the makings of a horror tale, dealing with a naked guy haunting the neighborhood … who only you can see.

Universal Pictures Home Entertainment Looks To June 9 For The Release Of DVD And Blu-ray/DVD Combo Editions Of The Hunt

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has capitulated, given up … just get it out; be done with it.   We are talking about director Craig Zobel’s The Hunt, which will be heading home on June 9 as a two-SKU home entertainment packaged media product offering.

The ARR comes in at 88 days.   Planned for release are DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack editions.

First, The Hunt was pulled from its original theatrical release last year over being tone-deaf, then it was resurrected for a theatrical release once again on Mar. 13 and damn, one week and done as once again it was pulled, this time it was the coronavirus and the shuttering of 40,000 screens nationwide.   Talk about a $14 million film production that was snake-bit from the get-go, whew, that’s costly.

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph TribbeyNo point going forward, no theatres in the immediate future, so let it go, be done with it.
Bonus features include a trio of featurettes — “Crafting The Hunt,” “Death Scene Breakdowns” and “Athena vs. Crystal: Hunter or Hunted?”

In other release news from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, June 2 will be the street date for a new 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition of director Steven Spielberg’s 1975 film classic, Jaws.

Bonus goodies include deleted scenes, outtakes, and a trio of featurettes (in addition vintage material, which can be found on the accompanying Blu-ray) — “The Making of Jaws,” “The Shark Is Still Working: The Impact & Legacy of Jaws” and “From the Set.”
