Wild Eye Releasing, with
the sales and distribution backing of MVD Entertainment Group, will be going
head-to-head with Disney’s Marvel and Warner Bros. DC superhero film franchises
on July 24 with the DVD debut of Jens Holzheuer and Oliver
Tietgen’s League Of Superheroes.
Move over Thor, Black
Panther and Iron Man, make some room there Batman and Wonder Woman you had
better clear a path for the most over-the-top superheroes since the Awesomes
took to the airwaves in 2013.
When the studios and
their superhero franchises get so overwhelming, you can bet that indie
filmmakers will have plenty of material to lampoon … and do they with League
Of Superheroes!
It begins innocently
enough with a clever connecting story that features a young girl being given a
comic book to shut her up … mom is too busy shopping, so here read this. Imagine an eight year-old boy with a Hustler magazine as reading material to
the pass the time!!
She delves in and the
film takes off with a series of vignettes each showcasing the talents of a
“superhero” ... there must be a couple dozen of them, with genre filmmakes like
Uwe Boll, Fred Olen Ray and Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman joining in the fun. Weird and funny are two words that describe
the chaos … and that’s more than you can say about some of those “real”
superhero films that you’ve found yourself sitting through (please end,
please).
So if you need a
superhero fix while awaiting Avengers: Infinity War to arrive on
DVD or Blu-ray later this summer, League of Superheroes on July 24 should
easily tide you over!
