In something of a surprise move, MVD Entertainment Group has come up with a newly minted DVD edition of director Pierre De Moro’s 1981 Christmas-season classic, Christmas Mountain: The Story of a Cowboy Angel. It will be available on Dec. 15 as a replicated DVD product offering (not a MOD release as it has previously been available from, perhaps, unofficial sources).
Shot on a limited budget in the wilds of Utah and released theatrically on a very limited basis in 1981 by the long-gone Osmond International, the film literally disappeared for something like 20 years before Jack Evans (who also appears in the film) was able to re-acquire the rights, along with source film negative materials.
The film itself, features Mark Miller (Savannah Smiles, Dixie Dynamite, Ginger in the Morning, etc.) as Gabe Sweet, a cowboy with a troubled past, who is given a mission — with help from an angel named Murf (Slim Pickens) — but he’s not sure if he is up to carrying it out.
When the film resurfaced in 2009, The Dove Foundation reviewed it for the first time and immediately awarded it the Dove Seal of Approval for All Ages.
