Six-FIlm Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2 From Sony Pictures Home Entertainment On Sept. 14

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has selected Sept. 14 as the street date for the six-film 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack set titled Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2.

Breaking down these new-to-4K film releases, we begin with director Otto Preminger’s 1959 Best Picture-nominee, Anatomy of a Murder, which also saw Oscar acting nominations for James Stewart (Best Actor), Arthur O’Connell and George C. Scott (both in the Best Supporting Actor category).

This is a new 4K film restoration from the original camera negative and includes a newly-prepared commentary from film historian Foster Hirsch, new video sessions with Gary Giddins, Pat Kirkham (author of “Saul Bass: A Life In Film & Design”), and Foster Hirsch, plus the vintage Otto Preminger excerpt from the Firing Line broadcast.

Next in the collection is director Carol Reed’s 1968 Best Picture-winner, Oliver!, which is being given a 4K film restoration from the original camera negative as well.

New bonus goodies here include commentary from film historian Steven C. Smith and the screen test for Jack Wild (“The Artful Dodger”) … on the vintage side there are four featurettes — “Behind-the-Scenes,” “Meeting Oliver!,” “Meeting Fagin!” and “The Locations of Oliver!” — plus there is a “sing-along” option.

There will be a new 4K film restoration (from the original camera negative) of director Martin Scorsese’s 1976 Best Picture nominee, Taxi Driver, starring Robert De Niro (nominated for Best Actor), Jodie Foster (nominated Best Supporting Actress), Harvey Keitel and Peter Boyle.

Included here are two vintage commentary options, one featuring Scorsese and screenwriter Paul Schrader, and the second with Schrader, who is joined by author and Professor Emeritus Robert Kolker of the University of Maryland.

Rounding out this six-film collection are Bill Murray starring in Stripes, director Ang Lee’s 1995 film adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, Sense and Sensibility (nominated Best Picture) and director David Fincher’s Mark Zuckerberg biopic, The Social Network.
