It would seem, and we are just guessing, but if you are Walt Disney Studios the point of buying 20th Century-Fox for a hefty chunk of change had nothing to do with any films that were in the production pipeline. Release them, be done with them … and do it as quickly as possible.
The latest Fox production to get the bum’s rush would be auteur filmmaker Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, a 14th Century period piece that took a nosedive at the box office. You spend a reported $100 million in producing a film with the likes of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in the cast and then generate just $10 million in box office revenues it is hard to see anything but red ink.
In any case, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is sending this little doggie home in lickety-split fashion on Dec. 14, which yields a zoom-zoom ARR of just 60 days.
Planned for release are stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray selections, plus a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition.
Bonus features are limited to the featurette titled “The Making of The Last Duel.”
