Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has cleared the streets of Gotham City for writer/director Matt Reeves’ The Batman home entertainment packaged media parade which will take place on May 24.
It was a long and winding road getting to this reboot of the DC Comics iconic Batman franchise, which began all the way back in 2013 and Ben Affleck’s involvement. By the end of 2016 that had soured and Matt Reeves was brought in to take a shot at it … trade reports indicated that he didn’t like the script that was in play and started from scratch.
Add in the pandemic and this and that and finally in March of this year The Batman arrives in theatres. A dark, neo-noir thriller, with gorgeous production values and a new, younger Bruce Wayne/Batman (Robert Pattinson from the Twilight film franchise was chosen) … and everyone held their breath. Would it be a hit with a reported $200 million production budget? It had to be big!!
The answer was a resounding yes. Box office receipts currently stand at $349.2 million! The ARR works out to 81 days.
Planned for release are stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray editions, plus a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack buying option.
Bonus features, which are exclusive to the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray SKUs, include deleted scenes (with commentary) and a whopping ten production featurettes — “Vengeance in the Making,” “Vengeance Meets Justice,” “The Batman: Genesis,” “Becoming Catwoman,” “Looking for Vengeance,” “Anatomy of the Car Chase,” “Anatomy of the Wingsuit,” “A Transformation: The Penguin,” “Unpacking the Icons” and “The Batmobile.”
The lone bonus nugget with the DVD edition is the featurette titled “Unpacking the Icons.”
