Icarus Films will be teaming up with France’s premiere film production and distribution company, Distrib Films, on Aug. 9 for the DVD debut of director Philippe Bézia’s Gallant Indies.
An eclectic mix of artists — some 30 dancers and eight operatic performers — joined forces in 2019 to celebrate the rich musical history of France at the Opéra Bastille in Paris to present a modern interpretation of Jean-Philippe Rameau’s 1735 opera, Les Indes Galantes.
With direction by Clément Cogitore, this 350th Anniversary celebration would go on to capture the prestigious Forum Opera Trophy as the Best Opera of 2019 … filmmaker Philippe Bézia (Becoming Traviata) was there with his crew to capture the magic.
The film, featuring choreography by Bintou Dembélé and conducted by Leonardo García Alarcón, got caught up in the Covid shuffle, managed a few film festival venues in late 2020 and throughout 2021, captured a few domestic arthouse playdates earlier this year, but for the most part has been seen by only a narrow audience to date.
That all changes on Aug. 9 with the DVD rollout from Icarus films. Gallant Indies is presented in French with English subtitles.
