Severin Films, with sales and distribution expertise from MVD Entertainment Group, has selected July 29 as the street date for the eleven-film/nine-Blu-ray disc set titled Bloody Legend: The Complete Cliff Twemlow Collection.
The Manchester Evening News in August of 1980 called Cliff Twemlow, “Bouncer with the Musical Touch … “ in a feature story they wrote about him. Before Twemlow became a filmmaker, he was a bouncer at several Manchester, England nightclubs and because of his physical stature he had been doing the job of tossing the rowdies out since he was just a lad of 16.
During his 28-year tenure as a bouncer he had enough material to actually write a book about it, “Tuxedo Warrior,” and also during the period he started composing music (some 2,000 compositions). In 1982, writer/director Andrew Sinclair adapted Twemlow’s Tuxedo Warrior for the screen, with Cliff on board as both the stunt coordinator (after all, he had 28-years of “bouncing” unruly patrons) and as Chaser (a bad guy), with actor John Wyman starring as “Cliff.”
Severin Films has included Tuxedo Warrior in this stunning collection, which features outtakes and a gag reel.
Tuxedo Warrior was all it took for Twemlow to get the acting bug and featured roles in eleven films before his untimely death in 1993 (heart failure while at home).
Severin Films has put together the complete collection here, which gets us to the next film in the series and his script for director David Kent-Watson’s G.B.H. (think: “grievous bodily harm) in 1983, which — surprisingly!! — is a violent tale about a bouncer who is called upon to fight criminal elements out to take over the local night club scene. He stars as Steven Donovan.Bonus goodies include commentary from actor Brian Sterling-Vete (who made his film debut in G.B.H. as “Zoo Disco”) and film historian David Flint (“Babylon Blue,” “Horror Out of Control,” “Now a Major Motion Picture”) and two viewing options — “original director’s cut” and the UK theatrical release version (director’s cut clocks in with 15 minutes worth of additional footage).
Other films in the collection include: Target Eve Island (1983), The Ibiza Connection (1984), Lethal Impact (aka: GBH2) (1991), Firestar: First Contact (1991), The Eye of Satan (1992), some bits and pieces of film projects, two oddies — Fitness Over 40 and The Art of Nude Massage — plus documentary filmmaker Jake West’s 2023 feature-length look at the life and times of Cliff Twemlow, Mancunian Man: The Legendary Life of Cliff Twemlow.
Severin Films includes with the July 29 Blu-ray debut of Bloody Legend: The Complete Cliff Twemlow Collection film commentaries, featurettes, a CD of Twemlow’s music (aka: Peter Reno) and more!
