VCI Entertainment Doubles-Up On Topper With Blu-ray Editions For Topper Takes A Trip And Topper Returns On Nov. 13

Cosmo Topper doubles up on Nov. 13 as VCI Entertainment readies the two classic film sequels, Topper Takes a Trip and Topper Returns, for their Blu-ray rollout on that mid-November date.

VCI released the original Topper (1937), starring Cary Grant, Constance Bennett, Billie Burke and Roland Young on Blu-ray in August of 2017 and now the fun returns with the long-await follow-ups on Blu-ray.

Topper Takes a Trip was the 1938 sequel, once again featuring Constance Bennett as Marion Kerby and Roland Young as Cosmo, with Billie Burke as his wife.  Cary Grant bowed out (his career was in full blossom at this point).

The next film in the series, which was released in the spring of 1941, saw the return of Roland Young and Billie Burke as Cosmo and Clara Topper in Topper Returns.   This time out a murder victim — played by Joan Blondell — seeks out Topper to solve the mystery of her death.   Her friend, played by none other than Carole Landis, could be the next victim!

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation Heads Home On Oct. 9

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be bringing director Genndy Tartakovsky’s animated smash hit, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, to the home entertainment marketplace on Oct. 9 as a three-SKU product offering.

The ARR is a quick-to-market 88 days and summertime multiplex box office receipts currently stand at impressive $158.7 million.

There will be a stand-alone DVD edition, a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack selection as well.

Bonus nuggets include two “mini-movies” — Puppy and Goodnight Mr. Foot — and a trio of sing-along videos — Dennis & Winnie deliver “Dennis Had a Giant Dog,” Johnny brings home “Monsters Like to Party Down” and Wanda Werewolf howls up a storm with “Oh These Wolf Pups.”

Additionally, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation comes loaded with a dance-along titled “I See Love” and five production featurettes — “Plan Your Own Spook-tacular Sleepover,” “Vampire Make Over: Mavis and Drac Tutorial,” “Behind the Screams – The Voices of Hotel Transylvania 3,” “Johnny's Home Movies” and “Drac's Zing-tastic Read Along.”

MVD Entertainment Group To Release Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack Edition Of Director Torin Langen’s 3 Dead Trick or Treaters On Oct. 23

MVD Entertainment Group has selected Oct. 23 — one week out from Halloween (which is no accident) — for the release of a special edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack presentation of writer/director Torin Langen’s horror anthology, 3 Dead Trick or Treaters.

The film, which is somewhat experimental in nature, is carried by the stories, the sights and the sounds (especially the music and the choice of instruments), but there is no dialog.   

If that seems strange, so too is the distribution pattern for Langen’s film.   3 Dead Trick or Treaters began originally as two award-winning short films, Fondue (2013) and Malleus Maleficarum (2014), which both worked the festival circuit.

Next, a wrap-around was filmed featuring Holden Levack as the unnamed “paper boy” and two additional segments were also filmed — Stash and Delivery.   This was all assembled by Langen into a coherent feature-length film, which opened at Toronto’s Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival in late November of 2016 … and then it went into hiatus.

Nine months passed and then 3 Dead Trick or Treaters launched a 2017 World Tour, playing at the Horrible Imaginings Film Festival in San Diego with subsequent festival stops in Canada, extensive screenings in the United States, plus the U.K., China and Singapore before wrapping up at the MidWest WeirdFest in Eau Claire Wisconsin in March of this year.

Langen’s “wrap-around” is in reality a stand-alone all on its own as the unnamed “paper boy” becomes curious when the papers he delivers at a remote cabin begin piling up.   It’s a creepy place and that sets the tone for what is to follow.

He begins to search the remote property for clues as to what has happened to his customer and stumbles upon what appears to be three newly-prepared graves.   Curious to be sure, but even stranger are the three notes attached – one to each grave — which he reads ... the vehicle for the introduction of each of the anthology segments.   These are insane stories; creepy … and tales that make 3 Dead Trick or Treaters a horror anthology to look forward to when it makes its domestic home entertainment debut on Oct. 23.

Bonus goodies include not one, but two commentary options.   The first features writer/director Torin Langen, while the second teams Langen with the film’s producer and actor, Eric Repke (as “Brother” in the Malleus Maleficarum segment).   

Other bonuses are deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons, a video session with filmmaker Langen and radio intereview with Langer and the film’s composer Stephen Schooley.
