Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced this past week
that Stephen King’s “what if” time-travel adventure mini-series, 11.22.63,
will be available as both DVD and Blu-ray product offerings on Aug. 9.
This fanciful musing has school teacher Jake Epping (James
Franco) returning to 1960 — by way of a time portal in the closet of a friend
(hey, it’s Stephen King, if there’s a time portal, there’s a time portal … get
over it) — in an attempt to stop the assassination of president Kennedy.
Over eight episodes Jake discovers that the past, the future
and the present are interwoven, and tugging at the various threads can be both
frustrating and dangerous. Yes, his
heart is in the right place, stop Oswald, save Kennedy, but in doing so he may
create a future that no one could ever wish for.
A parallel story unfolds as Jake enters a relationship with
a married woman named Sadie (Sarah Gadon) whose future doesn’t exist in Jake’s
present timeline.
Bonus features for 11.22.63 seem to be limited to a
newly-filmed roundtable session with producer J.J. Abrams, writer Stephen King,
series-adaptor Bridget Carpenter (Emmy-winner for Friday Night Lights) and
actor James Franco that is titled “When the Future Fights Back.”
