This is not a
misprint. We even ask Mill Creek
Entertainment if the pricing was correct … and they said, YES.
On June 5, consumers can
create an instant Blu-ray library of nine action films for just (drum roll,
please), $14.98. Tippy-tap, tippy-tap,
calculator working … WOW, that’s a $1.66 per Blu-ray film title.
This five-disc Blu-ray
collection is titled Action 9 Movie Collection and it includes not one or two,
but no less than five Jean-Claude Van Damme action thrillers, plus two from Fast
& Furious alumni, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson.
So let’s crack it open
and let’er rip …
Director Mic Rodgers’
1999 sci-fi entry, Universal Soldier: The Return, starring Van Damme as Luc
Deveraux (aka: GR44), the dead Vietnam vet, who was resurrected as a deadly
cyborg in Universal Soldier … well, he’s back!
The implants have been
removed and he is back among the living, but when the secret program he is
working on — new Universal Soldiers, or simply, UniSols — is about to be
shutdown, the master control computer, S.E.T.H (an acronym for Self-Evolving
Thought Helix), will have none of it and turns the UniSols loose … who are a
truly unstoppable force. Oh wait, they
haven’t met Jean-Claude Van Damme!
Between the first
Universal Soldier film in 1992 and Universal Soldier: The Return in
1999, Van Damme starred in one hit after another. Mill Creek Entertainment has two of those
from period. These are director Ringo
Lam’s 1996 box office smash, Maximum Risk, which finds Van Damme
assuming the role of his dead twin brother — a Russian mobster — to solve his
murder (Natasha Henstridge co-stars as his dead brother’s fiancé) and director Tsui
Hark’s 1997 buddy action/comedy, Double Team, who teams up with none
other than Dennis Rodman to stop an international terrorist (Mickey Rourke) who
has kidnapped Van Damme’s pregnant wife (Natacha Lindinger).
Also in the mix are two
direct-to-video action films starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Second
in Command (2006), Van Damme must defend the American Embassy in Moldavia
with just a handful of Marines against impossible odds, and The
Hard Corps (also from 2006 and co-starring Vivica A. Fox), which finds
Van Damme as a body guard to a former boxing champ (Raz Adoti), who is being
hounded by the mob.
Five Jean-Claude Van
Damme and we’re not done yet!!!
The Fast & Furious alumni
kick in with Vehicle 19 (Paul Walker) and Gridiron Gang (Dwayne
Johnson), plus Mill Creek Entertainment rounds out the nine-film collection
with You
Got Served and Stomp the Yard.
