MVD Entertainment Group
has tabbed Sept. 11 for the Blu-ray debut of director Bille Woodruff’s 2005
comedy hit, Beauty Shop, starring Queen Latifah as Gina, a Chicago-native
uprooted to Atlanta, who finds herself like a fish out of water.
Beauty Shop will be the latest addition the MVD’s line of
Marquee Collection of Blu-ray releases.
A widow, with a teenage
daughter (Paige Hurd — The Cat in the Hat, A Girl Like Grace,
Grandma's House, etc.) — who is an aspiring musician — Gina lands a
dream gig in Atlanta, working for Jorge (Kevin Bacon) — a world renown stylist
from Austria — but things quickly go south in their working relationship. What to do?
Desperate, she acquires a rundown shop — with clients set their ways —
and tries to turn the place around!
It won’t be easy. The stylists already there are unruly and
undisciplined, and the clients (as mentioned) are even worse. But with talent — and her secret “hair
crack” formula — Gina is bound and determined to make a go of it.
Just when things start to
look up, the spiteful Jorge — who isn’t all he seems — comes up with a devious
plan to ruin her. But, guess who has
the last laugh!!!
Teaming up Queen Latifah
in Beauty
Shop are Alicia Silverstone, Andie MacDowell, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Alfre
Woodard and Djimon Hounsou.
Bonus features include
selected scene commentary with filmmaker Bille Woodruff (Honey, Honey 2), a gag
reel and the featurette titled, “Beauty Shop: Inside the Style.”
