Walt Disney Home
Entertainment gets it right with the home entertainment launch of director Brad
Bird’s animated smash hit, Incredibles 2. When you have gold, there is no reason to
rush to market. Take it slow, pick your
spot and maximize sales. That’s gold!
Instead of a theatrical
to home entertainment window of 88 or 95 days, which is the new normal, Disney street-date
selection of Nov. 6 — for a three-SKU helping (plus Best Buy and Target
exclusives) of Incredibles 2 — works
out to an ARR of 144 days.
With domestic box office
receipts of $602.6 million (and counting), the studio can, and did, pick a
street-date Tuesday that works best for them.
Nov. 6 is just fine. Perfect.
As to SKU configuration,
there will be a stand-alone DVD edition, a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and a 4K
Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack selection.
As to bonus nuggets — and
there are quite a few — Disney begins with commentary from the animation team,
which includes Alan Barillaro (The Incredibles, WALL-E, Brave, etc.),
Tony Fucile (The Incredibles, Coco, Brave, etc.), Dave Mullins (Coco,
Inside Out, The Incredibles) and Bret Parker (yes, he too was part of The
Incredibles team, plus Brave, Monsters University and more).
There are also ten
deleted scenes, outtakes, the mini-movie titled Auntie Edna and six
featurettes — “Super Stuff,” “Heroes & Villains,” “Ralph Eggleston:
Production Designer,” “Strong Coffee,” “Paths to Pixar: Everyday Heroes” and “SuperBaby.”
Wait, wait … there’s
more. Director Domee Shi’s theatrical
short film titled Bao is included here, plus a making-of featurette, character
theme songs and more!
