Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is out early — extra
early — with news this past week that Stanley Kubrick’s landmark 1980 horror
classic, The Shining,
will be getting a new 4K scan from the original 35mm camera negative and will
be available for film buffs and genre fans to enjoy on Oct. 1 as a 4K Ultra
HD/Blu-ray Comb Pack presentation.
This will be the original 146-minute version —
trimmed versions have clocked in at 142 and 144 respectively.
All of the bonus goodies are archived from previous
editions and include commentary from Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown and
Stanley Kubrick biographer John Baxter, three featurettes — “Video from the
Overlook: Crafting The Shining,” “The Visions of Stanley Kubrick” and “Wendy
Carlos, Composer” — and Vivian Kubrick’s short documentary titled The
Making of The Shining.
