Word
arrived this past week that MVD Entertainment Group has a new 2K film
restoration of director Fred Wolf’s 1971 animated classic, The Point, featuring the music of
Harry Nilsson (who also co-wrote and produced) — with narration by Ringo Starr
— ready for a Blu-ray release under the company’s popular “Rewind Collection”
promotional banner.
The
street date set for this “Rewind Collection” special edition Blu-ray
presentation of The Point will
be Feb. 11.
In
a mythical land, without a name, everyone who lives there has a pointy-head,
except a little boy by the name of Oblio (voiced by Mike Lookinland … best
known as Bobby Brady of The Brady
Bunch), who was born with a round head.
This puts everyone on edge, which mutates into a frenzy of contempt when
Oblio beats the Count’s son (voiced by Buddy Foster — as Mike in the Mayberry R.F.D. television series)
in a game of toss (with triangles of course).
As a result of this transgression, Oblio is banished to the Pointless
Forest — with his dog Arrow.
Thus
begins a journey of discovery, where Oblio learns that there is a “point” to
his and everyone else’s existence.
Bonus
features for the release of The Point
on Blu-ray include a newly prepared video session with Mike Lookinland (titled,
“The Kid’s Got a Point”), a second with screenwriter Norm Lenzer (titled, “That
Old Guy Wrote the Point”) and a third featuring Kiefo Nilsson and Bobby
Halvorson (titled, “Everybody’s Got a Point”) and a quartet of featurettes —
“Who is Harry Nilsson?,” “Pitching The Point,” “Making The Point” and “Legacy
of The Point.”
