A Christmas without Disney, interesting it is. The studio locked and loaded and got
everything on the calendar by Nov. 05 … and with the release announcement this
week for director Joachim Rønning’s Maleficent:
Mistress of Evil for the New Year, it looks like
they are done.
A three-SKU helping of this sequel to the 2014
release of Maleficent will
be retailer-ready on Jan. 14. That date
yields a quick-to-market ARR of just 88 days … domestic box office receipts
currently stand at $111.5 million (against a report production budget in excess
of $180 million).
There will be Combo Pack editions for both the 4K
Ultra HD (with Blu-ray) and Blu-ray (with DVD) formats, plus a stand-alone DVD
edition.
As to bonus features, these are limited to the Combo
Pack SKUs (DVD is featureless). Look
for outtakes, a pair of extended scenes, the Bebe Rexha music video titled “You
Can’t Stop the Girl,” a VFX Reel and a trio of featurettes — “Origins of the
Fey,” “Aurora’s Wedding” and “If You had Winds.”
