Bayview Entertainment Preps Three Genre-Themed Films For Their Blu-ray Debut On Nov. 22 • Bridgehurst Asylum for the Sane • Small Blue Disc • Pavilion

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

For genre fans and those who savor discovering indie films of merit, Bayview Entertainment has just the ticket on Nov. 22, with not one, or two, but three genre surprises making their debut on Blu-ray on that date.

First up is the “mother of inspiration” gem, Bridgehurst Asylum for the Sane, from writer/director Brent Stainer.

The Archbishop Murphy High School was in a jam.   Covid, no live plays, but they didn’t give up, instead they worked with director Brent Stainer, along with fledgling student writers Adriana Hilerio and Julia Hawkins to come up with the inspired Love at First Zoom, a below-the-radar production that pleased everyone involved.    Consider that a dry run.

Stainer got to talking with Carrie Wright, the program director for the school’s theatre program and, along with Hawkins, they hit upon the idea of a second production (again no live stage performances) where the Covid pandemic could be worked into the plot of a horror tale.

The result, Bridgehurst Asylum for the Sane, which takes place during the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918/1919 (so masks would be a common factor).   Following the Civil War, it was a common — and quite reprehensible — practice to place disruptive young women in asylums as being insane.   It was abusive and very corrupt.

This is the predicament that Holly Emerson (Emma Kormanyos; aka: Emma Weller) finds herself in.   Sane, but committed to Bridgehurst nonetheless.   It is hell on earth … and a corrupt place that is beyond redemption!

Also making its Blu-ray debut on Nov. 22 is director Darren Haywood’s alien-abduction tale, Small Blue Disc, featuring the acting pairs of Leon Finnan/ Neville Cann (as the character Ben Hardaker) and Michael Otteson/ Christopher Clarke (as Gus Rafferty) who portray the abductees as both 16-year-old teenagers and as adults, 30 years later.

And lastly, genre fans can check out writer/director Eveshka Ghost’s sci-fi thriller, Pavilion, starring Tim van den Berg and Pip Rose as Alex and Emily, a might-be couple; could-be lovers … if they were not caught in a time-loop where Emily has been assaulted by a mysterious man, who Alex is chasing … and who might in fact be himself!

If you love puzzles, twists and turns … Pavilion on Blu-ray from Bayview Entertainment on Nov. 22.
