Cleopatra Entertainment, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has tabbed June 9 as the release date for a DVD/CD Combo Pack tribute to the late “outlaw” of country music, singer and songwriter Billy Joe Shaver.
Titled Billy Joe Shaver: One Night at Luckenbach, Texas, this live concert filmed as part of the Texas Roadhouse Live series in December of 2009, features a 16-song set that brought the house down. Backed by guitarist Jeremy Lynn Woodall, a life-long friend who would host a tribute to the departed Shaver in 2020, the audience enjoyed a genuine “outlaw” performance by this country music legend.
Mentored by the likes of Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, Shaver — who lost the better part of two fingers in a sawmill accident — went from songwriter to performer, built a loyal following and a well-earned reputation as a brawler, who actually stood trial for attempted murder (the jury acquitted him when he testified that it was self-defense).
He married and divorce the love of his life, Barbara, several times … nearly dropped dead from a massive heart attack on stage in 2010, recovered and continued touring and recording for another ten years. Tough as nails, Shaver was indeed the true “outlaw” of country music.
The set includes many of his fan’s favorites … counted among the set are: “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “You Asked Me To,” “Live Forever” and “Honky Tonk Heroes.”
Bonus features include a CD of the concert set, a bonus interview and behind-the-scenes footage.
