Bayview Entertainment is prepping the domestic Blu-ray debut of writer/director Rodrigo Lages’ Lacuna for delivery on Nov. 28.
This Brazilian horror entry stars Lorena Comparato (Rule 34, Golden Mouth) as Sofia, who appears to be in the middle of some sort of life-crisis as the film opens. There is a sense of panic as she keeps calling her mother, Helena (played by Kika Kalache), who is driving in traffic and is annoyed that her daughter keeps calling.
That’s how Lages sets up the tension — a tension that he will ratchet up as the story unfolds. This opening sequence seems like a character establishing segment, nothing more, until Helena drops her phone, and irritated, tries to retrieve it while driving … WHAM!
We cut to her in the hospital — in a coma — and her daughter, guilt-ridden, tries to make sense of what has happened. A drama? No, that's a misdirection.
