Paramount Home Entertainment Looks To Dec. 19 For A Full-Spread Physical Media Launch Of Writer/Director Lindsey Anderson Beer's Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

There are mysteries that — sometimes — defy explanation.

Such is the case with writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which will be heading to the physical media marketplace courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment on Dec. 19 as a full-spread array of buying selections.

Back in 2019, the directing team of Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer delivered a successful reboot of Stephen King’s 1983 novel, Pet Sematary.   It was all the buzz, so a follow-up — a prequel, if you will — was discussed, but the filmmakers bailed and that looked like the end of it.

Almost two years passed and then suddenly the much talked about prequel was back on the production schedule.  In the summer of 2021 the film, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, went into production.  And then silence.

Nothing in 2022 … and finally it makes its debut at Fantastic Fest in September of this year.   For two years it was in limbo and then it just arrives, but instead of a follow-up theatrical launch during the Halloween promotional period, it went direct to streaming on Paramount+ on Oct. 6.

So unless you were lucky enough to be at Fantastic Fest, or a subscriber to Paramount+, the Dec. 19 street date for DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD editions of Pet Sematary: Bloodlines will be the first opportunity for genre fans to get a legitimate look at Beer’s film.

We say, “legitimate,” because the “helper” community was quick to pounce on the streaming window to deliver Blu-ray editions of their own — with professional-quality packaging — within hours of the film’s rollout.

What remains a mystery is the full-spread launch by Paramount Home Entertainment.   You spend four years in pre-production, production and then post (editing, sound, etc.) and then take the final product direct to streaming, but also deliver a 4K Ultra HD edition?

It just seems odd for a direct-to-video release to get the 4K-treatment.   Like we said, some mysteries just defy explanation.   Ignore all that and just enjoy Paramount Home Entertainment’s Pet Sematary: Bloodlines on Dec. 19 or DVD, or Blu-ray … or 4K Ultra HD!!

The home entertainment versions come loaded with about an hour’s worth of production featurettes (five in all) — “Origins,” “Fresh Blood,” “Death’s Design,” “Method to the Madness” and “War Comes Home.”
