Arrow Video, with domestic sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has tagged Sept. 17 for the release of a double-disc 4K Ultra HD edition of director Marcus Nispel’s 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th (it pulled in a cool $65 million at the box office).
Actually, this is a double feature. The first 4K disc is the original theatrical cut and the second disc is the extended “Killer Cut” (97 versus 105 minutes).
Bonus features on the theatrical cut features two commentary options — one with director Marcus Nispel and the second is with writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. There are also new video sessions with Nispel, Swift, Shannon and cinematographer Daniel Pearl.
Also included with the theatrical cut 4K disc is the “video essay” featuring film critic Matt Donato titled “A Killer New Beginning,” deleted scenes and a trio of archival featurettes — “The Rebirth of Jason Voorhees,” “Hacking Back/Slashing Forward” and “The 7 Best Kills.”
Shifting over to the “Killer Cut” disc the only bonus features is the newly-prepared commentary with film critics Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Josh Nelson.
