Mill Creek Entertainment Plans Gamera Blu-ray And DVD Onslaught For Apr. 29

In 1965 a new Japanese creature was spawned, Gamera.   This behemoth turtle — like no turtle seen before — was capable of walking upright (Godzilla-like), had sharp teeth, monstrous tusks, belched fire and arrived at Christmas the following year on domestic theatre screens.   As with his predecessors, Godzilla and Rodan, this strange beast was a child of the atomic age.   

On Apr. 29 Mill Creek Entertainment will be serving a three-SKU helping of all-things Gamera for genre fans to savor and enjoy.

The collectible choices begin with two separate four-film Blu-ray collections titled Gamera: Ultimate Collection, Volume #1 and Gamera: Ultimate Collection, Volume #2.   Each of these hi-def volumes contain four films “restored to their original Japanese cuts!”

The first collection features, Gamera: The Giant Monster, Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera vs. Gyaos and Gamera vs. Viras, while volume two contains Gamera vs. Guiron, Gamera vs. Jiger, Gamera vs. Zigra and Gamera: Super Monster.

These new Blu-ray collection join the previously released: Gamera Double Feature: Guardian of the Universe/Attack of the Legion, Gamera: Revenge of Iris and Gamera Trilogy: Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2: Attack of Legion and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris.

Also on Apr. 29 is a four-disc DVD collection showcasing eleven of the Gamera films titled Gamera Legacy Collection: 1965 – 1999.   This collection is priced at just $14.98 and includes: Gamera: The Giant Monster, Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera vs. Gyaos, Gamera vs. Viras, Gamera vs. Guiron, Gamera vs. Jige, Gamera vs. Zigra, Gamera: Super Monster, Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera 2: Attack of Legion and Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris.

Also on the release calendar from Mill Creek Entertainment in April are four TV-on-DVD SKUs on Apr. 1.  These are: Action: The Complete Series Uncut & Unbleeped, I Dream of Jeannie: Season 1 (a three-disc set),  I Dream of Jeannie: Season 2 (also three discs) and News Radio: Seasons 1 & 2 (spread over three DVDs).

On Apr. 8, president Reagan will be featured in the double-disc collection titled Ronald Reagan: The Life and Legacy, plus two special interest DVDs are also planned for released on this date — Ghost Towns: America's Lost Worlds and Northwest Passage: The Last Frontier.

Lastly, the first glimpse at what lies ahead during the month of May was given a particularly long lead … this would be the double-disc release on May 13 of Das Boot: The Original Un-cut Mini-Series.
