It’s crystal clear that
amazon.com doesn’t give a rip about revealing dates and taking orders for new
theatrical releases before the studio offering up the film(s) in question can
make an official announcement. Giving
embargoed street date and release information to the online retail giant is
like giving chum to a shark and asking it not to bite down.
A week ago amazon decided
to pick on 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment by leaking release
information (and taking orders) for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Amazon said Dec. 12, but until this past
Thursday (Nov. 9) the studio was mums the word on whether that was the correct
date or not. As it turns out, 20th
Century-Fox Home Entertainment circulated a press announcement on the
aforementioned Nov. 9 and confirmed that amazon.com had it right.
This week amazon.com is
back at it again and 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment is once
again the target. The film with the
broken embargoed pre-book by amazon.com this week is director Hany Abu-Assad’s
film adaptation of the Charles Martin novel, The Mountain Between Us,
starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba as the only survivors of a small plane
crash in the mountains … in the dead of winter. They have to work together to survive —
which is what the trailer shows and theatre-goers (not familiar with Martin’s
book) expected, but they also got a love-story that seemed out of place.
The date, according to
amazon.com, is Dec. 26.
Orders are being taken
for DVD, Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack SKUs on that
date. Fox has yet to make a formal
announcement, but amazon.com speaks and that’s gospel these days.
Update: 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment made it official on Thursday, Nov. 16, with a confirmation of the Dec. 26 release. Bonus nuggets include deleted scenes and a trio of production featurettes — “Love and Survival: Creating Chemistry,” “Mountain Between Them: Shooting in Isolation” and “The Wilds: Survival Stunts.”
Exclusive to the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD SKUs are commentary by director Hany Abu-Assad.

The ARR works out to 81
days and box office receipts stand right at $29 million.
As to last week’s victim, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment revealed the bonus goodies that amazon.com either didn’t have or didn’t care about.
As to last week’s victim, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment revealed the bonus goodies that amazon.com either didn’t have or didn’t care about.
Common to all SKUs is the
featurette titled “Black Cab Chaos: Anatomy of a Killer Chase” and a stills
gallery titled “Kingsman Archives.”
Exclusive to the Blu-ray
and 4K Ultra HD Combo Packs is the “multi-chaptered documentary” titled
“Kingsman: Inside the Golden Circle.”
Basically, this is a collection of nine production featurettes.
