Icarus Films has selected Apr. 28 as the DVD street
date for German documentary filmmaker Florian Opitz’s System
Error. The
timing of the DVD release seems perfect, especially in light of the current Wuhan
Coronavirus pandemic and the impact it is having on worldwide financial
markets.
Opitz takes a look at the possible ramifications of
a sudden contraction of worldwide economic growth, not just by something like a
disease pandemic, but also the exhaustion of resources that contribute to
an-ever expanding economic marketplace.
Places around the world — from the United States to
China, to Brazil … the United Kingdom, Germany, etc. — are surveyed for
examples. This globetrotting trip by
Opitz is backed by one-on-one interview sessions with the likes of Tim Jackson,
professor of sustainable development at the University of Surrey and the
director of the Center for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity; Norbert
Räth, Germany’s head of GDP calculation; Argino Bedin, a Brazilian soy bean
producer; Andrew Bosomworth, the Managing Director and Head of Portfolio
Management at Pimco … and more.
System Error is
presented in German, English and Portuguese with English subtitles where
needed.
