It was a very, very busy announcement week over at
Paramount Home Media … a recent theatrical release will be making the
transition to the home entertainment marketplace, a new promotional Blu-ray
label is being launched, Top Gun gets
a 4K release and the 40th Anniversary celebration of a venerable
horror classic were all added to the release calendar in just one week!
So let us get right to the good stuff.
Up first is director Miguel Arteta’s R-rated comedy,
Like a Boss,
starring Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne and Salma Hayek, with Jennifer Coolidge,
Natasha Rothwell and Billy Porter co-starring.
The street date for both DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo
Pack editions of Like a Boss will
be Apr. 21. The ARR for that
street-date Tuesday works out to 102 days … domestic box office receipts were
$22.1 million.
Mia (Tiffany Haddish) and her business partner, Mel
(Rose Byrne), have a start-up cosmetics company that they call Mia&Mel,
which could be a big success, but like many start-ups, they have run into money
issues.
No problem, Claire Luna (played by Salma Hayek) is
the head of a cosmetics empire and she would like to “help” out. “Helping out” means taking control, sucking
out their ideas and closing them down.
Once Mel and Mia — and their friends — realize that Claire Luna is the
beauty equivalent of Darth Vader, they have to put aside their personal
differences and find a way out of the mess that they’ve created for themselves.
Bonus goodies include deleted scenes and a pair of
featurettes — “With Coworkers Like These, Who Needs Friends?” and “Get Some
with Ron and Greg.”
On the date, Apr. 21, Paramount Home Media is
launching a new promotional line, “Paramount Presents,” which features new 4K
film restorations of popular films that will be re-released with new packaging
on Blu-ray.
The first of “Paramount Presents” Blu-ray releases
includes director Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch
a Thief, starring Grace Kelly and Cary
Grant, director Adrian Lyne’s sexually-charged thriller Fatal
Attraction, teaming Michael Douglas with
Glenn Close, and the Elvis Presley “Big Easy” classic, King
Creole.
As to bonus features, To Catch
a Thief comes with commentary from
Hitchcock film historian Dr. Drew Casper and a pair of featurettes — “Filmmaker
Focus: Leonard Maltin on To Catch a Thief” and “Behind the Gates.”
Fatal Attraction
arrives as a Paramount Presents Blu-ray edition with commentary from director
Adrian Lyne, rehearsal footage, an alternate ending and the featurette titled “Filmmaker
Focus: Adrian Lyne on Fatal Attraction.”
And last, but certainly not least, is director
Michael Curtiz’s 1958 “dramatic musical,” King Creole, starring Elvis Presley,
Carolyn Jones, Dolores Hart and Walter Matthau. Bonus features here include a song-access feature
(jump to any song and the featurette titled “Filmmaker Focus: King Creole.”

On May 19 director Tony Scott’s 1986 Navy fighter hit, Top Gun,
starring Tom Cruise, Anthony Edwards, Tom Skerritt and Kelly McGillis will be

Tony Scott, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriter Jack Epps, Jr. (plus
comments by Naval flight experts) and at least two featurettes — “On Your Six:
Thirty Years of Top Gun” and “The Legacy of Top Gun” … and more!!
Director Sean S. Cunningham’s 1980 horror film
franchise kick-off classic, Friday the 13th,
will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a new SteelBook
