Last week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
announced a new 4K Ultra HD edition of writer/director Damien Chazelle’s Best
Picture nominee, Whiplash.
This past week Sony was back again with yet another 4K
Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack presentation, director Neill Blomkamp’s 2009
sci-fi/political allegory, District 9. The street date will be Oct. 13.
Bonus goodies include a newly-created featurette
titled “Comic-Con Extravaganza,” plus a ton of vintage treasures, including
commentary from director Neill Blomkamp, who was nominated for an Oscar for his
screenplay … District 9 was
also his feature film debut, others that followed were both Elysium and Chappie.
Additional vintage material included with the 4K
Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack release of District 9 on Oct. 13 are deleted
scenes, the three-part documentary titled The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker’s Log, four
featurettes — “Metamorphosis: The Transformation of Wikus,” “Innovation:
Acting and Improvisation,” “Conception and Design: Creating the World of District
9” and “Alien Generation: Visual Effects” — and the interactive presentation of
“Joburg from Above: Interactive Map of Satellite and Schematics of the World of
District 9.”
