Full Moon Entertainment Targets Feb. 09 For The Release Of Director David Schmoeller's Toursit Trap: Uncut On Blu-ray

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Full Moon Features, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, has a new Uncut edition of writer/director David Schmoeller’s 1979 indie horror gem, Tourist Trap, ready for a Blu-ray debut on Feb. 9.

Every now and then an indie film production, usually in the genre world of horror, sci-fi and fantasy, rises above the obvious budget limitations and breaks through to a major audience.    And then, survives the test of time.   A great example is director Wes Craven’s 1972 horror classic, Last House on the Left, a micro-budget film that redefined the limits of horror.   And, of course, George Romero’s 1968 film release of Night of the Living Dead is another such minor-budget film that lives on today.

It is the very success of films like these that fire the imagination of indie filmmakers and writer/director David Schmoeller’s Tourist Trap, a mixed-genre treasure fits right in there.

Talk about creative use of what’s available, legend has it that Schmoeller was out driving one day and spotted a house located at 5255 Hollywood Blvd. (yes, fans know the location) that was set for demolition.   He asked, since they were going to tear it down anyway, if he might use it for his film … sure, why not.

So, when you are enjoying Tourist Trap, you are cutting from outdoor locations around Los Angeles County (Griffith Park, Latigo Canyon out in Malibu and Agua Dulce on the way to Palm Dale/Lancaster) to the interior of this condemned house on Hollywood Blvd., which was all tricked out for the special effects that take place.   Movie magic!

Of note, counted among the victim pool is none other than future Charlie’s Angels star, Tanya Roberts, who plays Becky (sadly, she’s not the final girl) and the creepy Slausen, of Slausen’s Lost Oasis, is former baseball player, Chuck Connors (who gained fame as Lucas McCain in The Rifleman television series, plus such film as Flipper, Old Yeller, Soylent Green).

Bonus features include commenary by filmmaker David Schmoeller (Netherworld, Puppet Master: Blitzkrieg Massacre, Little Monsters, etc.).
