Just when you thought that there were no more blockbusters, the movie industry turned to Kong, King Kong to get things back on track. Or, maybe it was that iconic Kaiju of post-war Japan, Godzilla!
What the heck, director Adam Wingate (You’re Next, The Guest) got both of these bad boys together for a face-off in Godzilla vs. Kong and in the process brought movie-goers back to their local cinemas to the tune of $90.4 million … and counting.
Although not quite back to what we have witnessed in the past (pre Covid-19) — in terms of blockbuster box office receipts — it is close enough to herald the beginnings of the resurrection of the movie-going experience.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced that this past week that a full-spread of home entertainment packaged media product offerings will be available for fans to add to their King Kong and/or Godzilla film collections on June 15.
The ARR for that mid-June street date works out to 74 days.
Planned for release are Combo Pack editions for the 4K Ultra HD (with Blu-ray) and Blu-ray (with DVD) formats, plus a double-disc DVD presentation.
Bonus features common to all release SKUs are ten, yes ten, featurettes — “Kong Discovers Hollow Earth,” “Kong Leaves Home,” “Behold Kong’s Temple,” “The Evolution of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World,” “Godzilla Attacks,” “The Phenomenon of GŌJIRA, King of the Monsters,” “Round One: Battle at Sea,” “Round Two: One Will Fall,” “Titan Tag Team: The God and the King” and “The Rise of MechaGodzilla.” Exclusive to the Combo Packs is commentary from director Adam Wingard.
Hard to believe, but candy merchant Willy Wonka is turning fifty and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be celebrating the event with a brand new 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack edition of director Mel Stuart’s 1971 film release of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory on June 29.
Bonus goodies include gold ticket chocolate bars with each purchase — just kidding. Actually, we have commentary featuring the “Wonka Kids” (Peter Ostrum (Charlie), Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt), Denise Nickerson (Violet Beauregarde), Paris Themmen (Mike Teevee) and Michael Bollner (Augustus Gloop), plus two featurettes — “Pure Imagination: The Story of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory” and “The Moviemakers” — and four Scrumptious Sing-Alongs — “Pure Imagination,” “I Want It Now!,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket” and “Oompa-Loompa-Doompa-De-Do.”
