Mill Creek Entertainment To Release I Dream Of Jeannie: The Complete Series On Blu-ray On July 13

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

It is official, I Dream of Jeannie: The Complete Series, will be making its Blu-ray debut on July 13 as a 12-disc collection — featuring all 139 fun-filled episodes — from Mill Creek Entertainment.

With Bewitched a huge success, it was only natural that another magical comedy series would be conjured up and that was the September of 1965 sitcom launch of a magical tale about an astronaut, Capt. Anthony “Tony” Nelson (Larry Hagman), who crashes on a deserted island — far off course — and finds a stranded “genie-in-a-bottle” and rescues her and she becomes Jeannie … and his wishes get them rescued.

Barbara Eden had bounced around the entertainment scene since the mid-1950s, she was Loco Jones on the sitcom, How to Marry a Millionaire (1957-1959) and even did an Elvis movie, Flaming Star (1960), but it was her role in director Harry Keller’s 1964 comedy, The Brass Bottle, opposite Tony Randall and Burl Ives, that caught the eye of veteran Hollywood scriptwriter-turned-producer Sidney Sheldon (his 1947 script for The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer got him an Oscar nomination … Easter Parade, Annie Get Your Gun and more followed and he hit upon the idea for The Patty Duke Show with William Asher and writing-turned-to-producing).   He dropped his search for the show’s star and hired her … it was magic.

Now, I Dream of Jeannie: The Complete Series will be available for fans to enjoy on Blu-ray from Mill Creek Entertainment on July 13.
