Bayview Entertainment announced this past week that British writer/director Jason Impey’s Zombie Lover will be making its way to these shores on July 27.
A mad scientist, star-crossed lovers and a zombie plague all combine for a wild romp in the English woods. We begin this horror adventure with an introduction to Diller Slater (Kemal Yildirim — Psychopaths, The Lorelei, Abduction, Abduction 2: Revenge of the Hive Queen), who is little more than a street punk who finds himself in trouble and on the run. As luck would have it, and we use the word “luck” in a very guarded sense, he happens upon an old friend of his, Stacey Gallagher (Lianne Robertson), who he has always had the hots for.
Since they last saw each other, Stacey has made some bad choices and is now married to a guy named Michael (Max Fellows), who is not only insanely jealous — to the point of having Stacey spied upon — but is abusive as well. But there is something else about Michael that we will soon learn that is even scarier.
Seeing Stacey is too much for our boy Diller and he soon has her undressed and in bed when just then Michael, who has been tipped off to the dalliance between his wife and this stranger, barges in on the love-makers. A battle royal ensues and Diller beats Michael to death … what to do, what to do? Get rid of the body of course!!
Actually, for Stacey this solves a lot of problems, and for Diller, this accident is wonderful, he can now have her all to himself. Just a drive out to a secluded spot in the woods, dig a hole and be rid of Michael. Problem solved.
This is where Zombie Lover takes a hard turn from an impulsive murder tale and a body dump to a horror story that gets weirder and weirder as things progress.
When the lovers open the trunk of the car to dispose of Michael’s body, they get quite the shock as he’s not dead, well, that’s not totally true, he is dead, but now he is “undead;” a zombie!! Before Diller can finally be done with him, Michael manages to take a bite out of Stacey, which starts the process of her becoming a zombie as well. It will take some time for the process to run its cycle.
It gets a little complicated, but it seems that Michael has been in league with a neo-Nazi scientist by the name of Ilsa (Eileen Daly — Razor Blade Smile, Pervirella, Monsters of the Id), who has resurrected Nazi experiments from World War II and is in the process of building a new Nazi zombie army (of course, to conquer the world).
Meanwhile, Diller and the not-looking-so-good Stacey take refuge in a dilapidated cabin in the woods, and when they are not trying to avoid Ilsa’s zombie hoard, the pair do find the time to return to their love-making which Michael had so rudely interrupted — which is now kind of creepy since Stacey has something of an undead look on her face as Diller has his way with her.
Jason Impey’s Zombie Lover is a mixed-genre romp, that manages to pay homage to the Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS movies of the 1970s, mix in a little film noir murder tale and also let the zombies loose … July 27 on DVD from Bayview Entertainment to find out what happens to Diller and his true love, Stacey.
