Mill Creek Entertainment has tabbed July 13 as the 20th Anniversary Blu-ray debut date for director Dennis Dugan’s buddy comedy, Saving Silverman, starring Jason Briggs, Jack Black and Steve Zahn, plus Amanda Peet as the “evil” woman and Amanda Detmer as the soon-to-be-nun!!
Darren Silverman (Jason Briggs — American Pie, Loser, My Best Friend's Girl, etc.) is a member of the Diamonds in the Rough band, which was formed with his grade-school buddies, Wayne (Steve Zahn) and J.D. (Jack Black), as a tribute to their all-time favorite recording artist, Neil Diamond. The band defines them and it is the link to their life-long friendship.
After a gig one night, Darren meets a very smart and very attractive woman named Judith Fessbegger (Amanda Peet) and she takes total control of his life, using sex — or the lack of it — to separate him from his band mates. She has set her mind on breaking up the band! She’s evil in Wayne and J.D.’s eyes … and something must be done about her!!
There are simple solutions and creative solutions, but when you are dealing with the likes of Steven Zahn and Jack Black those types of solutions are nowhere to be found. Instead, these two knuckleheads hit upon the idea of kidnapping the evil Judith, which, of course, will be a disaster.
Meanwhile, they have something of a “Plan B,” which is to reunite Darren with his grade-school sweetheart, Sandy (Amanda Detmer), but she is in the final stages of becoming … a nun!!
Saving Silverman is great fun, with the solution to the problem of how Darren is to escape from Fessbegger’s evil spell being either killing her, or kidnapping Neil Diamond. Hmmmmm, those don’t seem like rational options.
