Icarus Films will be teaming up with Distrib Films on July 13 for the domestic DVD debut of German filmmaker Marc Rothemund’s comedy release of It’s for Your Own Good.
Their children are growing up and have relationships of their own and three fathers, with three daughters, are in total panic mode over the prospect of having idiots for future sons-in-law.
We start with a top-notch lawyer by the name of Arthur (Heiner Lauterbach — who plays Gerhard in Granny Nanny, which is also heading home from Icarus and Distrib Films on June 15), who is happy-as-a-clam that his daughter, Antonia (Janina Uhse — How About Adolf?, Berlin, Berlin), is about to marry an attorney that he approves of. The wedding day has arrived!
That all blows up when Antonia dumps her betrothed and takes up with an itinerant radical, Alex (Jacob Matschenz — Chasing Paper Birds, My Wonderful Wanda), who seems to have no skill-set other than protesting anything and everything that he disagrees with. To Arthur, this prospect is a non-starter.
This horror strikes close to home as Arthur’s two brothers-in-law are having the same problem with their daughters, Arthur’s nieces. Bernhard (Jürgen Vogel — Familie!, Emmas Glück, Kleine Haie) is beside himself that his daughter, Luna (Lisa-Marie Koroll — Below Sweden, Bibi & Tina) is sleeping with a man who makes his living as a photographer … that can’t be all that bad, right? At least he has a job; a profession.
Wrong, Pierre (Andreas Pietschmann) is not just any photographer, he specializes in photographing nudes, but that’s the least of it. What’s driving poor Bernhard crazy is that Pierre is old enough to be Luna’s father!!
Meanwhile, the other brother-in-law, Yussuf (Hilmi Sözer — Brother and Sister, Elephant Heart), is troubled that his daughter, Sophie (Lara Aylin Winkler — Rate Your Date, A Regular Woman), is making poor choices and that her latest fling, Andi (Junis Marlon), might be dealing drugs!!
A united front is what is called for, so Arthur, Bernhard and Yussuf decide to take matters into their own hands and come up with a plan to drive these unwanted suitors away … but how? That’s the fun of it!!
It’s For Your Own Good is presented in German with English subtitles.
