Bayview Entertainment Tabs Dec. 14 For The DVD Debut Of Writer/Directro Matthew Packman's Morbid Colors

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

This past week, Bayview Entertainment revealed the DVD debut date for two horror delights that will have genre-fans eagerly waiting for Dec. 14 to arrive.

The first of these pre-Christmas horror gems is writer/director Matthew Packman’s Morbid Colors, starring Kara Grey (Payton’s Burden, Emergence) and Lanae Hyneman (in her film debut) as estranged sisters Myca and Devin respectively.

Raised in foster care in rural Indiana (filmed in and around Evansville), the pair are now on their own with little in the way of a “skill-set.”   Devin is a would-be musician (think: Midwest punk) trying to make a go of it, while Myca, now attractive, but addicted to drugs and a drifter — with her lifestyle her youthful beauty will fade, the years will take their toil and she’ll either be in prison or dead.

In any case, Myca arrives back in town, looking none too good and hooks up with her sister — if the truth be known, they don’t particularly care for each other.   But sisters are sisters, and Devin, as luck would have it, has a gig for Myca, the fill-in drummer in her band as the spot is open with the regular guy in jail (it’s that kind of a band).

The music loud, the place rocking, and Myca literally takes center stage with a fit of vomiting, even the patrons of this low-life bar take offense to that.   So much for the gig, but before Devin can rip her sister to shreds the truth comes out, Myca is sick, very sick.

It seems that our party-hearty girl fell in with a rich woman by the name of Gloria (Cindy Maples — Echo Rhyme, Homecoming Massacre), who is — are you ready for this — the leader of a coven of vampires.   Myca is turning, become sicker and deadlier (as a result) each day … the only solution, cut off the head of Gloria and break the curse!!

Morbid Colors is a sweet ride as the pair, who are out-classed, but street-savy, set out to take down Gloria and her troop of vampires!!

Also heading home on Dec. 14 from Bayview Entertainment is Death Breed, a real “horror vault treasure” from writer/director Ben Dixon.

Over a decade ago, Dixon made a series of films which featured some of the biggest names in the horror and fantasy film area of the business.   Scream Queens by the likes of Debbie Rochon, Tiffany Shepis and Linnea Quigley, plus such genre-fan favorites as Kane Hodder and Gunnar Hansen … even Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman got in on the action.

For years these treasures sat in storage … they had played their respective festivals and all of these greats had moved on to other projects.   Dixon had a stroke of inspiration that would make afficionados of those classic Hammer Films and Amicus Productions horror anthologies proud.

He took these three gems, Aconite (2005, retitled Wolfsbayne for this anthology), Shudder (2007) and Old Habits Die Hard (2009), shot brand new wrap-around footage and created a feature-length horror anthology … come for your favorite Scream Queen starring in Death Breed on Dec. 14 and stay for the entire show!!
