It Will Be "Rewind Collection" Status For MVD Entertainment Group's June 21 Blu-ray Release Of Director Robert Bierman's Vampire's Kiss

MVD Entertainment Group has just announced that its popular “Rewind Collection” line of Blu-ray products will have a new member on June 21, director Robert Bierman’s summer of 1989 horror/comedy, Vampire’s Kiss, starring Nicolas Cage, Maria Conchita Alonso and Jennifer Beals.

Poor, pathetic Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage), he’s on top of the world in New York City as a literary agent, but he is so insecure in his relationships that he already has a full time therapist, Dr. Glaser (Elizabeth Ashley — Coma, Rancho Deluxe … as Freida Evans in the Evening Shade television series), who assures him that there is nothing wrong, he is just afraid of commitment.

Two storylines begin to unfold at this point, both of which will come colliding together in the third act.   First, Peter becomes obsessed in finding an old contract from years ago and orders his secretary, Alva (Maria Conchita Alonso — The Running Man, Predator 2, The Lords of Salem), to begin searching for it.  The more fruitless the search, the more obsessed Peter becomes.   It gets to the point that she fears that her boss is stalking her, going to rape her and perhaps even murder her.

The other storyline gets Peter into truly bizarre territory as he picks up a beautiful young woman by the name of Rachel (Jennifer Beals — Flashdance, Devil in a Blue Dress, The Grudge 2) and takes her home.  Rachel has fangs and begins drinking Peter’s blood, which becomes a regular thing.   The more encounters, the more Peter becomes convinced that he is turning into a vampire … which makes him more than just a little strange.

That strangeness gets us back to Alva and the missing contract.   Peter’s behavior becomes down-right bizarre; unhinged and now terrified, Alva turns to her brother, Emilio (Robert Lujan — Fire Birds), for help.   He’s not sure, but agrees to help.

Is Peter really a vampire?   Is Rachel even real?   Is Alva actually in danger?

What does it matter, if Peter believes it, that’s all that counts!

Filmed on location in New York City in the late summer of 1987 (the Twin Towers are very prominent throughout), the film didn’t go into theatrical release right away, instead it was opened at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 1988, resurfaced at the Boston Film Festival after Labor Day the same year and then disappeared again.   Hemdale, which was the distributor, released the film the following June as almost an afterthought.

Vampire’s Kiss is a perfect entry into MVD’s “Rewind Collection” of Blu-ray releases … it is a perfect fit.

Bonus goodies include commentary from Nicolas Cage and filmmaker Robert Bierman, plus there is an extensive still gallery.
