Mill Creek Entertainment doubles-up on June 7 with George Clooney in the Blu-ray release of Double Feature: The American/The Leatherheads.
Director Anton Corbign’s 2010 thriller, The American, finds two-time Oscar-winner George Clooney (as producer for Argo … and as Best Supporting Actor for Syriana) playing “Jack,” a professional assassin, who has reached his limit and wants to retire. That will be no easy task, but he agrees to one last “assignment” and while waiting for instructions takes refuge (a vacation, if you will) in the Italian countryside.
Liking the downtime and the easy pace, not to mention a budding romance with a local named Clara (Violante Placido — Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Lookout), Jack is beginning to wonder if he should take the next job. But, by taking comfort in the calm of his “hideout,” has he put himself in danger from friends of the many victims (assignments) of his past wet-work? Or, is this “last assignment,” a set-up and an “exit” for Jack?
Teamed with The American in this Clooney Blu-ray double feature is the 2008 release of Leatherheads, in which Clooney both stars and directs.
It’s 1925 and the dawn of professional football as Clooney plays Jimmy, the captain of the Duluth Bulldogs. They are having a tough go of it until Jimmy convinces World War I hero Carter “The Bullet” Rutherford (John Krasinski) to join the team.
All is well until both Jimmy and “The Bullet” fall for Lexie Littleton (Renée Zellweger), a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. But Lexie might not be on the up-and-up when it comes to romancing “The Bullet” … what can be done? What can been done, indeed!!
