Synapse Films Locks Into July 26 For The Release Of A Newly-Minted 4K Ultra HD Edition Of Director Dario Argento's Tenebrae

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Synapse Films, with sales and distribution support provided by MVD Entertainment Group, revealed this past week that writer/director Dario Argento’s 1982 (1984 domestic) giallo/horror film, Tenebrae, will be getting a new 4K Ultra HD 40th Anniversary release arriving home on July 26.

This is configured as a double-disc 4K Ultra HD with a Blu-ray Combo Pack.

This was a real gem when it surfaced as a dubbed theatrical release in 1984.  Tenebrae can play as a straight murder mystery — serial killer murder mystery — or as a slasher horror film.   Take your pick … either way it has a wicked twist at the end that you will not see coming.

As for the bonus goodies, this new 4K film restoration is sourced from the original camera negative and includes both the original Italian-language audio track (with English subtitles) and the English-dubbed theatrical audio track.

There are three separate commentary options … the first with film critics Alan Jones and Kim Newman, the second featuring Argento expert Thomas Rostock, and the third with author Maitlan McDonagh (“Broken Mirrors/Broken Minds: The Dark Dreams of Dario Argento”).

There are seven featurettes — “Yellow Fever: The Rise and Fall of the Giallo,” “Being the Villain,” “Out of the Shadows,” “Voices of the Unsane,” “Screaming Queen,” “The Unsane World of Tenebrae” and “A Composition for Carnage.”

The second 4K Ultra HD disc features the edited Unsane version of the film and the companion Blu-ray disc features Tenebrae.
