Icarus Fims Looks To Feb. 21 For The Domestic DVD Debut Of Writer/Director Fabien Gorgeart's A Family For 1640 Days

DVD & Blu-ray Release Report, Ralph Tribbey

Icarus Films will be teaming up with France’s premiere film production and distribution company, Distrib Films, on Feb. 21 for the domestic DVD debut of writer/director Fabien Gorgeart's A Family for 1640 Days.

Simon (Gabriel Pavie) is a foster child, living with Driss (Lyès Salem — The Man from Oran, Mascarades) and Anna (Mélanie Thierry — four-time César Awards nominee — Memoir of War, See You Up There, The Dancer, One for the Road) and their two children, Adrien (Idriss Laurentin-Khelifi) and Jules (Basile Violette).  It is all that Simon has ever known … this is his family.

When he was just 18-months-old his father, Eddy (Felix Moati), became morose when his wife died … he felt the prudent thing to do was to find help; a foster family.

Like a shadow, creeping, growing and then suddenly overwhelming, word arrives that Eddy has petitioned the court to regain custody of his son.   The bureaucracy grinds slow and life for Anna and her family continues, but that shadow grows ever larger as the days pass.

When the weight of the state comes down upon you; upon Anna, it is all she can do to cope.   It’s like the loss of a son … and they — the bureaucracy — are not pleased with her attitude.   Devastating … have Kleenex handy.

A powerful, award-winning drama that played the international film festival circuit for 15 months … with only one domestic screening at the American French Film Festival in October.   This DVD release from Icarus Films finally gives it the domestic exposure that it richly deserves.

A Family for 1640 Days is presented in French with English subtitles.
