MVD Entertainment Group has given film fans a long lead with a May 7 street date for its next Blu-ray “Rewind Collection” release. That will be plenty of time to beat the promotional drums for director Tibor Takacs’ 1996 film release of Sabotage, starring Mark Dacascos and Tony Todd.
Direct to video at just the moment that the world was being turned upside down. VHS was the king in 1996 and then came DVD in March of 1997, how does a direct to video release survive that transition?
In short it didn’t. The DVD & Blu-ray Release Report has been monitoring DVD release activity since the inception of the format and can report that out of 315,574 unique entries recorded (latest title count), it wasn’t until August of 2019 that the first pirated DVD of Sabotage surfaced domestically.
MVD Entertainment Group stepped in December of last year with the official DVD debut (a no-frills entry), but now we get the real deal, the real homage to Takacs’ Sabotage with a “Rewind Collection” Blu-ray release!
To celebrate, MVD has two newly-prepared video sessions that are included here. The first features the legenary Mark Dacascos (as Lo-Mai in The Island of Dr. Moreau, as Mani in Brotherhood of the Wolf, plus such action gems China Strike Force, Cradle 2 the Grave, Maximum Impact and as Zero in John Wick: Chapter 3).
The second video session is with his co-star in the film Tony Todd (Candyman).
When MVD launched the “Rewind Collection” series it would only be a matter of time before Sabotage would be in the queue … mark it down, Blu-ray, May 7.
