Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Selects Feb. 22 For The 4K Ultra HD Release Of Writer/Director Frank Darabont's The Green Mile

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has locked into Feb. 22 as the street date for the debut of a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray edition of writer/director Frank Darabont’s 1999 film adaptation of the 1996 Stephen King novel, The Green Mile.

Nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture, it remains a mystery to this day how that the members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thought that American Beauty was a superior film.   The Academy has a long list of mysterious decisions that have piled up over the years … this is just one of them.

Bonus features, which can be found on the companion Blu-ray disc, include commentary from filmmaker Frank Darabont, additional scenes, Constantine Nasr’s documentary short film from 2000 titled Walking the Mile, the Michael Clarke Duncan screen test, makeup tests for Tom Hanks and the featurette titled “Miracle and Mystery: Creating The Green Mile.”

           

 

Writer/Director Johannes Roberts' Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City Heads Home On Feb. 08

So how did the Umbrella Corporation’s massive underground research facility in Raccoon City come to be?   That question is answered on Feb. 8 with the three-SKU home entertainment packaged media rollout of writer/director Johannes Roberts’ prequel and reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

The ARR comes in at 74 days and domestic box office receipts currently stand at a disappointing $16.9 million, which makes plans for additional theatrical releases in the series dicey.  

The film opened theatrically on Nov. 26 (after several delays) and it was quickly followed by a Dec. 21 online option, which pretty much limited any theatrical chances going forward … the trick will be, did streaming, plus box office revenues make any future releases in the series viable?

As for SKU configuration, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be sending home stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray editions, plus a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack buying option.  

Bonus features, which are limited to the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack selections, include a trio of production featurettes — “Replicating the DNA,” “Cops, Corpses and Chaos” and “Zombies, Lickers and the Horrors of Resident Evil.”

Mill Creek Entertainment Sets Feb. 01 As The Domestic Blu-ray Debut Date For Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle - The Complete Series

Mill Creek Entertainment’s fan-favorite Ultraman film and television franchise continues to pay dividends with news this past week that Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle – The Complete Series will be available as a four-disc Blu-ray collection on Feb. 01.

This is a unique 25-episode series that ran in Japan in early 2017 (later the same year in the United States) and is assembled from various movies and series featuring Ultraman Zero (Mamoru Miyano), the son of Ultra Seven, who begins his service under the watchful eye of Ultraman Leo.

His first challenge are monsters and alien beings summoned forth by the evil Ultraman known as Belial.   This challenge is met, but soon even dark forces emerge with Alien Batt dispatches Alien Zetton and Hyper Zetton to crush the upstart and take command of the universe.  

Ultraman Zero is no dummy, he looks to Ultraman Dyna and Ultraman Cosmos to help him vanquish these alien forces.

Ultraman Zero: The Chronicle – The Complete Series is presented in Japanese with English subtitles.

 

 

 

 

MVD Entertainment Group Bestows "Rewind Collection" Status On Director Alan Stewart's Ghost Riders For DVD And Blu-ray Release On Feb. 8

MVD Entertainment Group looks to Feb. 08 for the release of the newest addition to its popular “Rewind Collection” line of DVD and Blu-ray products.

This would be none other than director Alan Stewart’s 1987 mixed-genre horror and Western tale, Ghost Riders.

It is 1886 on the dusty plains of Texas and Reverend Thadeous Sutton (played by actor-turned-stuntman Bill Shaw) is out for justice, frontier justice.   No need for a trial, Sutton and his lynch mob descend upon the local jail and haul desperado Frank Clements (Mike Ammons) and his associates out kicking and screaming and promptly hang them. 

The deed done and over with, this violent act of vengeance is soon forgotten by time.   That is until the present day when Clements and his gang are magically resurrected and plan on a little vengeance; some retribution of their own.

The action takes place in present-day Santa Rio, where Sutton’s descendent is a history professor by the name of Jim Sutton (also played by Shaw).   Jim’s son, Hampton (Jim Peters) and his friends, Tommy (Arland Bishop), Cory (Ricky Long) and Cory’s girlfriend, Pam (Cari Powell) — who secretly has the hots for Hampton — are out for a good time on the Sutton Ranch when they are confronted by Clements and his ghostly riders.

How do you stop the undead?  Bullets for the already dead have little effect.   Ghosts, phantoms … the undead are terrifying, but these killers are now very real once again and they are out for blood.   Who survives and who doesn’t, and what “magic” of their own can Hampton and his friends devise to send these outlaws back to the here-after … it all plays out on Feb. 08 with the “Rewind Collection” release of Ghost Riders on both DVD and Blu-ray.
