VCI Entertainment
announced its first wave of post-Labor Day releases this past week and if the
first batch is any indication of what is to come on the run-up to Christmas,
then it is going to be a very exciting release calendar.
The fun begins on Sept.
10 with remastered Uncut Widescreen editions of cult filmmaker Dario Argento’s
1970 slasher thriller, The Bird With the Crystal Plumage. Both DVD and Blu-ray SKUs are planned … and,
as a bonus, the original music sound track has been restored for this release.
Also on the release
docket for delivery to Blu-ray on Sept. 10 is director Victor Halperin’s 1932
horror film, White Zombie, starring Bela Lugosi. Bonus features here include a newly prepared
commentary option with film scholar and author Gary Don Rhodes (“White Zombie:
Anatomy of a Horror Film”).
Rounding out this first
wave of September releases is a DVD push for 1952 horror comedy, Mother
Riley Meets the Vampire. Which
teams Arthur Lucan (as Old Mother Riley) with, you guest it, Bela Lugosi.
