Dwayne Johnson (aka: The
Rock) is chewing up the box office once again with the current theatrical hit, Rampage,
which was preceded by another blockbuster hit, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Clearly Mill Creek
Entertainment is listening to the street; the buzz … the collectability of
Johnson’s films on both DVD and Blu-ray.
Indeed, word arrived this past week that director Phil Joanou’s 2006
dramatic film adaptation of filmmaker Jac Flanders’ 1992 Emmy-winning
documentary, Gridiron Gang, is being restored for a special edition Blu-ray
release on June 5.
And, as always, the price
for this Blu-ray presentation of Gridiron Gang, which is based on Sean
Porter’s (played by Dwayne Johnson) efforts to reform delinquent gang members
by developing a football program at Camp Kirkpatrick, is just $14.98 (and
that’s before discounts potentially available at retail).
Mill Creek Entertainment
has gone the extra mile on this release by including Flanders’ original
feature-length documentary as a one of the bonus features. Other bonus goodies included with this
special edition Blu-ray release of Gridiron Gang includes commentary
from director Phil Joanou (Heaven’s Prisoners, Three O’Clock High,
State of Grace), who is joined by screenwriter Jeff Maguire
(Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay for In the Line of Fire), 15
deleted scenes (with commentary) and a quintet of production featurettes.
Also on the June 5
priced-to-collect release schedule from Mill Creek Entertainment are DVD and
Blu-ray editions of the epic fantasy-world mini-series, The 10th Kingdom,
starring Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Virginia, a New York waitress who gets
swept up in the misadventures of Snow White’s grandson, Prince Wendell (Daniel
Lapaine) — who has been turned into a dog by his evil stepmom, the Evil Queen (Dianne
Wiest).
Both the DVD and the
Blu-ray editions (2 disc presentations) include Digital Copy.
Also heading home as both
DVD and Blu-ray selections (with Digital Copy) on June 5 are three-disc
collections of The Awesomes: The Complete Series … all 30 episodes (three-full
seasons) of this adult-targeted “super hero” animated series, inspired by Seth
Meyers and Mike Shoemaker, are included here at attractive must-have pricing.
When Mr. Awesome (voiced
by Steve Higgins) retires, it falls to his son, Prock (Seth Meyers), to keep a
super hero force together to battle all sorts of evil villains. The problem is, the new super heroes that he
recruits are all rejects with very little talent … oh boy, how is the world
going to survive this!!!
On the DVD-only release
front on June 5 are director Russell Mulcahy’s epic presentation of Jules
Verne's Mysterious Island, starring Kyle MacLachlan, Gabrielle Anwar,
Vinnie Jones, Danielle Calvert, Omar Gooding and Patrick Stewart as Nemo. The SRP is just $14.98.
And lastly, in this first
wave of June home entertainment selections from Mill Creek Entertainment is the
three-disc DVD presentation of The Merlin Collection, which
features all three mini-series … Merlin, Merlin's Apprentice and Merlin:
The Return (all with Digital Copy).
