While the Hollywood
studios spend mega bucks in furious attempts to develop sustainable — and
lucrative — film franchise series, it looks like Wolfe has found a “furious”
force of its own in the form of Roy Haylock and his inspired Bianca Del Rio
(aka: Richard) larger than life screen presence.
Back in October of 2016
Wolfe brought home on DVD writer/director Matt Kugelman’s Hurricane Bianca,
starring Roy Haylock as Richard Martinez, a high school science teacher who
lands his dream job, only to be fired by the hateful “Debbie” (Rachel Dratch)
— the school’s vice principal — when she learns that he is gay. With the help of some new friends, Martinez
reapplies for his job, in drag, as Bianca Del Rio (the insult drag queen
persona made famous on RuPaul’s Drag Race television
series) and lands the teaching job.
The first film was so
much fun — 81 minutes of pure joy — that it was only natural that filmmaker
Matt Kugleman and Roy Haylock would team up again for a sequel and that comes
in the form Wolfe’s announcement this week that Hurricane Bianca: From Russia
With Hate will be making its DVD debut on June 19.
Deborah, or make that
“Debbie,” got put in her place by Bianca when the credits rolled in Hurricane
Bianca, but you can’t keep an evil, broom-riding villain of her caliber
down for long. So she’s back with an
over-the-top plan to put an end to her nemesis once and for all … and it
involves Russia!!!
Debbie’s plan is simple
enough, Bianca, or make that Richard — it does get confusing — will be awarded
a teaching prize by the Russians, which means a trip to Moscow to accept it,
where she will simply disappear. Bianca
Del Rio made to simply disappear at the hands of Svetlana Zlopasnost (Dot-Marie
Jones — three time Emmy nominee for her role as Shannon in the Glee
television series), the new Prime Minister of Homosexual Propaganda? Hah!
Good luck with that as we all know that Bianca Del Rio is a force of
nature!
There is a certain irony
in the plot, as it turns out, as Debbie’s daughter is arrested at an
underground bar reception hosted by Katya Zamolodchikova (of RePaul’s
Drag Race fame) and
ends up in a hell hole of a prison. The
mortal enemies must unite to stage a massive prison breakout of Zlopasnost’s political prisoners — and
Debbie’s daughter — to set things right.
Filmmaker Matt Kugleman
has delivered a knock-your-socks-off comedy that just could make Haylock’s
Bianca Del Rio a film franchise staple.
Production values are solid, the script is terrific and the acting is,
well, over-the-top!
The bonus nugget included
with the DVD release of Hurricane Bianca: From Russia With Hate by
Wolfe on June 19 is a blooper reel.
