We reported back in the DVD & Blu-ray Release Report for the
week ending June 15 (edition No. 1,109) that sources at Marvel were touting
Aug. 14 as the street date for directors’ Anthony and Joe Russo’s blockbuster
hit, Avengers:
Infinity War. Walt Disney
Studios Home Entertainment, however, was mum’s the word on the subject, but
when Target and Best Buy were busy taking orders for special editions — in
effort to get their fair share of the pie — you just go ahead and report on it.
On Tuesday, July 10, the
PR people over at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment finally made it
official. Aug. 14 is indeed the street
date.
Right now Disney and
Comcast are locked in an epic struggle for 20th Century-Fox, so you
have to forgive the PR staff over at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment for
officially announcing the home entertainment launch of one of the biggest films
of the year after the pre-book date. It
happens.
Just for the record, the
ARR comes in at 109 days and ticket sales have moved up to $674.9 million.
What was missing from the
Marvel tweets (and leaks) were the bonus goodies associated with the DVD,
Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack product offerings.
Here’s what you get! There will be commentary by the directing
team of Anthony and Joe Russo, who are joined by screenwriters Christopher
Markus and Stephen McFeely, plus a gag reel, deleted and extended scenes and a
quartet of featurettes — “Strange Alchemy,” “The Mad Titan,” “Beyond the
Battle: Titan,” and “Beyond the Battle: Wakanda.”
