Arrow Video, with
domestic sales and distribution expertise provided by MVD Entertainment Group,
is monkeying around in mid-October and having a bit of non sequitur fun by having director John Landis’ Schlock
and filmmaker Terry Gilliam’s 12 Monkeys both available as new Blu-ray product offerings on the same date,
Oct. 16.
12 Monkeys, starring Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt and Madeleine
Stowe, has a new 4K restoration from the original film negative (approved, no
less, by Terry Gilliam himself).
This is actually
something of a double feature as Arrow Video is including with the feature
presentation of 12 Monkeys the feature-length documentary prepared in 1996 by Keith
Fulton and Louis Pepe. It is titled The
Hamster Factor and Other Tales of Twelve Monkeys and it was filmed to
follow the progress of the production of 12 Monkeys — it is no secret that
Gilliam was not happy with the studio treatment of Brazil (1985) and this
was to be something of an insurance policy against such tinkering.
This new Blu-ray release
also features commentary from Terry Gilliam and producer Charles Roven, plus an
extensive gallery of stills from the film.
