MVD Entertainment Group’s
impressive Marquee Collection line-up of films on Blu-ray — which already
includes Walking Tall (just released), Autumn In New York
(heading home on Aug. 28) and the Barbershop trilogy (arriving on
Sept. 11) — got a new member this week with the announcement that director Carl
Franklin’s 2003 police thriller, Out of Time, will be available on
Oct. 9.
Denzel Washington stars
as Matt Whitlock, the Police Chief of
Banyan Key, Florida, which would normally be a swell job in paradise, but he’s
managed to clutter all of that up. He’s
on the path to a divorce from his current wife, Alex (Eva Mendes — Exit
Wounds, Training Day, 2 Fast 2 Furious, etc.), who is also a cop and
he’s having an affair with a Banyan Key local by the name of Ann (Sanaa Lathan
— American
Assassin, Now You See Me 2), whose husband (played by Dean Cain) is
abusive.
Now Ann and Matt have a
history dating back to high school, so when he learns that she has cancer, he
hits upon the idea of “borrowing” nearly a half-million dollars of drug money —
currently impounded, awaiting the arrival of DEA officials — so that Ann can
jet off to Europe for a miracle cure.
It’s a great plan, except
Ann and her husband die in a mysterious house fire and the money is toast. Or, maybe not!
As the title of the film
implies, Out of Time, Matt has to solve the death of Ann, figure out if
the money actually burned up and get all that done before the DEA agents arrive
to retrieve the cash. Go Matt, go!!
Bonus features include
commentary from actor-turned-director Carl Franklin (Nowhere to Run, Devil in a
Blue Dress, High Crimes, etc.), screen tests for both Sanaa Lathan and Dean
Cain, outtakes and featurette titled “Character Profiles.”
